NIRSAL Empowers Over 2,000 Farmers in Four States with Training to Enhance Loan Access and Agricultural Productivity

NIRSAL Plc has successfully trained over 2,000 farmers across four Nigerian states, aiming to enhance their capacity to access and repay commercial loans as part of its Agro Geo-Cooperative initiative.

The training sessions were held in Imo, Sokoto, Oyo, and Kwara States, targeting lead farmers who can disseminate newly acquired knowledge to members of their cooperatives. In Imo State, 500 farmers gathered at both urban and rural locations to focus on efficient fish production models, while similar aquaculture training took place in Sokoto State. In Oyo and Kwara States, the sessions concentrated on improving cassava farming techniques.

Mr. Uche Agabige, Chairman of the Imo State House Committee on Agriculture, praised NIRSAL for including Imo in the program, stating that the initiative would significantly bolster the state’s agricultural productivity.

Mr. Ibrahim Suleiman, Head of Value Chain Capacity Development at NIRSAL Plc, highlighted that the training is part of the Technical Assistance provided by NIRSAL under its Technical Assistance pillar. He noted that the program was conducted simultaneously across three other states, spanning four geopolitical zones, with an expected reach of 6,000 additional farmers through cascading training.

The training also covered essential aspects such as forming functional cooperatives with effective governance structures and preparing for potential protocol breaches through early warning systems. Participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights gained and committed to sharing the knowledge with their cooperatives.

By empowering lead farmers and extension agents, NIRSAL is driving the transformation of agricultural practices across these states, positioning farmers to better access financial resources and enhance their productivity.
