The Governing Council of Federal University Gashua (FUGA) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor, which will become vacant on February 11, 2026.

This appointment is in line with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act No. 11 of 1993, as amended.

About the University

Established in February 2013, the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) is committed to expanding access to higher education and enhancing its quality in Nigeria. The university is located in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The Position

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the university. He/She is responsible for:

  • Academic, physical, and infrastructural development.
  • Ensuring high-level academic standards and discipline.
  • Providing leadership for staff and students.
  • Promoting peace, stability, and good governance.
  • Building strong partnerships with external agencies and organizations (local and international).
  • Attracting resources and enhancing the reputation of the university.

Eligibility and Qualifications

The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor must:

Academic/Professional Requirements

  • Hold a PhD from a recognized university.
  • Have at least 15 years of uninterrupted teaching and research experience at the university level.
  • Have served in a senior academic and administrative position (e.g., Head of Department, Dean, Provost, Deputy Vice-Chancellor).
  • Hold the rank of Professor for at least 10 years by February 10, 2026.
  • Be widely published in peer-reviewed journals and recognized internationally.

Leadership and Administrative Qualities

  • Must have a proven track record of academic leadership and effective resource management.
  • Should demonstrate visionary leadership with a strong vision statement (not exceeding 1,000 words).
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Should demonstrate the ability to attract funding, grants, and partnerships from local and international organizations.
  • Must be able to bridge relationships among staff, students, and stakeholders.

Personal Attributes

  • Of impeccable character, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Be physically and mentally fit.
  • Be proficient in ICT and committed to digital transformation in higher education.
  • Not be more than 65 years old by February 11, 2026.
  • Must not have immediate relatives working with the university.

Conditions of Service

The Vice-Chancellor shall:

  • Serve a single term of five (5) years only.
  • Enjoy the terms and conditions applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities, as determined by the Federal Government.
