The Oxbelly Retreat’s Fiction Writers Program invites storytellers from diverse corners of the globe to gather for a transformative week of literary exchange in the picturesque setting of Costa Navarino, situated in the historic region of Messinia, Greece. This initiative is designed to support ten promising fiction writers, offering them the opportunity to refine their craft, develop a distinct narrative voice, and engage in meaningful conversations about the art of storytelling across cultures. Participants will partake in immersive workshops and discussions led by accomplished writers and industry experts, followed by ample time to focus on their writing in a tranquil and inspiring environment. The program is fully funded, with no application fees for candidates.
During the retreat, fellows will benefit from structured workshops guided by esteemed literary figures, alongside free time dedicated to uninterrupted creative exploration. The serene and captivating landscapes of Messinia provide the ideal backdrop for reflection and writing. Under the leadership of Program Director Chigozie Obioma, the initiative aims to foster a supportive and enriching space for emerging voices in fiction.
The call for applications is open to aspiring novelists and short story writers, whether published or unpublished, who are at least 18 years old. Writers from Greece and beyond are encouraged to apply. Applications close on January 22, 2025, with finalist interviews slated for late spring of the same year.
