CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying an exploratory mission that end up with an opening of the project.
Currently, MSF is running an ITFC (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the Kofar Sauri PHCC and 4 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centre) including three in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, Riko,) and one in Katsina City (Kofar Marusa).
MAIN PURPOSE
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.
JOB DESCRIPTION
• Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
• Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
• Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
• Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
• Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
• Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
• Supervise, in close coordination with the deputy head Nurse/ HN/ EAM, the associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development and communication) of the nutrition staff of the project in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, improve people capabilities and skills.
• Supervise the implementation of the nutritional program according to MSF protocols and standards. This includes : Draw up outpatients activity planning,
• Follow up the evolution of patients and discuss the problem cases taking part in the medical assistant’s round, and install referral system according to the protocol in place,
• Check that medical and nutrition prescriptions are carried out.
• Check the diffusion, knowledge and application of medical, nutritional and anthropometric protocols.
• Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the Project biomedical items.
• Ensure that caregivers are well informed about the functioning of the ITFC / ATFC, the state and evolution of their child: their tasks (help with cleaning, feeding their child, etc)
• Supervises, in cooperation with the pharmacist, the management of the pharmacy, ensuring reception and storage of orders, preparing new orders when required, supervising expiration terms and consumption patterns, in order to ensure, a rationale use as well as pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and above minimum safety point.
• Ensure correct nutritional data collection (daily tally sheets, registers, nutritional forms, ITFC/ATFC card), compile daily and weekly statistics for the inpatients unit, report this information to the line manager and provide feedback on the results to the team. In this function includes all kind of nutritional information that the supervisor has in his /her hands.
• Ensure all biomed items are available in the ward and the team are following proper handing and taking over
• Do the weekly inventory and ensure that the order is perfectly make to the pharma
• Ensure that all items from the MSF standard list are available in all the ward/ facility
• Follow up daily consumption of all pharmacy items, and Control drugs SOP in the critical units
• Ensure the order and reception of patient’s foods, organize the testing and distribution in collaboration with HP team.
• Collaborate with Nurses Trainer for the training plan and training implementation, and support in bedside/ on job training for staff
• Plan and participations in routine departmental meetings/ trainings / morbidity and mortality reviews
• Performing any other task, specific to his/her area of specialty, as defined in his/her job description and according to the line manager.
• Verify daily consumption and monitoring of RUTF/ and other consumables in the facility and report any fraud
REQUIREMENTS
Education Specialty (nurse) diploma and valid license essential. Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BNSc) desired
Certificate in nutrition or field related is an added advantage (e.g., pediatric nutrition, maternal and child health)
Experience Essential 2 years of previous experience as Nurse/ Nurse team supervisor in nutrition project. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Having worked as Nurse team supervisor is added advantage
Languages Mission and local language essential (Hausa ).

CONTRACT: Fixed Term
208 working hours per month.
REMUNERATION
According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
