Applications are now open for the Leadership for Change Prize 2024, an exciting education program from The Economist Educational Foundation in partnership with Rolex.

This program empowers 10- to 16-year-olds with critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and communication skills, all developed by expert teachers alongside top journalists and fact-checkers from The Economist.

About Leadership for Change

The program has three main components:

  • Curriculum: A set of six one-hour lessons designed to give students the tools and knowledge they need to lead positive change in their communities.
  • Live Lesson: On November 13, 2024, students can join a live online lesson held at 10am and 3pm (GMT), featuring interactive activities and inspiring talks from influential leaders.
  • Competition: Students can submit their own “Project for Change,” with three winning projects receiving funding and mentorship to help bring their ideas to life.

Benefits

Winning schools and students will receive:

  • Up to £1,000 in funding to implement the winning “Project for Change.”
  • Three mentorship video calls with an experienced leader between January and June 2025.
  • Publication of the winning project on the Topical Talk website.
  • Awards for each winning student.

Eligibility

To qualify, entries must:

  • Be submitted by teachers on behalf of their students. (Direct student submissions will not be accepted.)
  • Be presented in written, audio, or video format (no more than 650 words or four minutes in length).
  • Represent groups of 2-3 students, with one entry per group.
  • Be anonymized, with no identifying information included.

How to Apply

The submission deadline is November 20, 2024. Teachers are encouraged to complete the Leadership for Change curriculum with their students before submitting entries.
