COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian humanitarian non-governmental organization founded in Milan in 1965. COOPI aims to help the world’s poorest to improve their access to healthcare, food, and financial security, and to overcome their special vulnerability to wars, civil conflicts and natural disasters. For 50 years of long-term support and constant presence in the field, COOPI has been engaged in breaking the cycle of poverty and responding to specific emergencies in numerous sectors, including Food Security, Humanitarian Aid, Health, Socio-Economical Services, Water and Sanitation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Human Rights, Education and Training, Migrations and Sustainable Energy.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Housekeeper

Location: Potiskum, Yobe
Reports To: Logistics Officer/Head of Base
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Housekeeper / Office Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall tidiness of COOPI’s office premises, guest house, and compound.
  • This includes performing routine cleaning, laundry, basic cooking, grocery shopping, and supporting staff comfort and safety through consistent sanitary practices.

Main Duties / Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitation Duties:

  • Perform daily cleaning of office spaces, guest rooms, common areas, and compound, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting.
  • Clean restrooms, toilets, hand basins, kitchen areas, and workstations, ensuring hygiene standards are met at all times.
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, telephones, remote controls, switches) at least 2–3 times a day.
  • Empty and sanitize trash bins, paper shred containers, and transport waste to designated collection points.

Laundry and Housekeeping:

  • Provide laundry services for guesthouse residents and ensure proper use of antiseptic and detergent products.
  • Maintain tidiness in guest rooms, including making beds and organizing personal areas.
  • Replenish consumables (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels, etc.) in offices, restrooms, and guesthouse areas as needed.

Kitchen and Food Support:

  • Assist with cooking duties and ensure the kitchen is clean and organized.
  • Clean and disinfect kitchen surfaces, utensils, and appliances.

Maintenance and Stock Monitoring:

  • Report any damaged or non-functioning items (e.g., equipment, furniture) in the office, guest house, or compound to the Logistics Officer promptly.
  • Monitor stock levels of cleaning and hygiene supplies and request replacements when necessary.

General Support Duties:

  • Sweep the compound and maintain external cleanliness.
  • Perform other related tasks as required by the supervisor or other designated staff to ensure smooth operations and a comfortable working/living environment.

Profile of the Candidate (Educational Qualification, Experience, Training, Competences, Skills)
Education:

  • University Degree or equivalate/Diploma/certificate in hospitality/housekeeping.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience in housekeeping, office cleaning, or hospitality roles, with the ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Sound knowledge of cleaning procedures, products, and equipment, ensuring high standards of hygiene and sanitation.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent personal hygiene, and a reliable, punctual, and responsible approach to duties.
  • Flexible, motivated, and professional attitude with strong organizational and time- management skills.
  • Experience in cooking and preparing a variety of dishes as part of household or hospitality support.
  • Culturally sensitive, adaptable, and respectful of diverse working environments.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with colleagues and guests.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working for international organization in a similar role.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of English (spoken and written).
  • Prior experience in a similar position within the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Proficiency in the local language (Hausa).
  • This ToR shall be inclusive of any other task specifically assigned by the Project Manager/HoB and direct supervisor.
