- The aim of the fellowship program is to train a cohort of skilled individuals to support the National Malaria Programs (NMPs) in the management, visualization and analysis of data to improve evidence-based decision-making. The fellow will receive a variety of tailored technical and professional training, alongside mentorship from the MACEPA data analytics team based in the US and in-country staff. By the end of the fellowship, a fellow will ultimately deliver data analytics training to NMPs in collaboration with the analytics team. The position is a fixed-term, non-renewable, two-year contract.
Responsibilities:
- Support NMP and partners to assemble and manage data repositories.
- Design and implement evaluations of routine surveillance, intervention, and commodity data to inform decision-making.
- Produce monthly reports describing the malaria situation based on the analyses of routine data and other relevant datasets.
- Develop dashboards for the visualization of routine data.
- Build strong relationships with the NMP and respond to requests for data investigations and analyses relevant to key programmatic issues.
- Contribute to and support the facilitation of data review meetings with the NMP.
- Undertake structured training across a range of core areas including advanced data analytics, malaria epidemiology, presentation and report writing.
- Deliver capacity strengthening in data analytics training to the NMP and local partners.
- Support data aspects of Sub-National Tailoring (SNT) including assembling, cleaning, processing and visualizing data, and contributing to SNT meetings.
- Maintain regular communication with US-based data analysis team, data analytics fellow’s cohort, and MACEPA in-country teams.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, health-related data science or similar field preferred, plus at least one year of relevant quantitative experience.
- Experience in data management, cleaning, analysis, mapping, and visualization (ideally in R).
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, including report/paper writing and editing.
- Experience preparing and delivering presentations.
- Excellent organization, time management, attention to detail, ability to appropriately prioritize competing tasks, manage shifting priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and as part of a cross-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work independently when required – including undergoing trainings, leading interactions with NMPs, independent problem solving.
- Ability to interact with global colleagues and partners and provide creative solutions in a professional manner.
- Willingness and ability to travel, estimated at 10% of the time.
- French language necessary for CAR and DRC posting, and a plus for the other posting.
