The Lagos Agric Scholars’ Program (LASP) is a strategic component of the Lagos State Agricultural Youth Empowerment Scheme, aimed at equipping students with hands-on experience in modern and urban agricultural practices.
It serves as a practical complement to the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom, inspiring a new generation of agripreneurs.

Since its inception in 2019, LASP has reached over 100 senior secondary schools and 3 correctional centres across the state. The program focuses on key agricultural value chains such as aquaculture, goat and poultry rearing, and modified vegetable production.
One of LASP’s core objectives is to encourage healthy eating habits and promote agriculture as a viable and respected career path—on par with fields like medicine, engineering, and law.
To make agriculture more relatable and engaging for young minds, a comic book series was launched, creatively illustrating various agricultural initiatives and innovations.

In 2023 and 2024, LASP scaled up its operations from basic open-field farming and fish tanks to the use of smart aquaponics units—a cutting-edge, integrated agricultural technology.
These units were installed in 12 secondary schools and 1 correctional centre, enhancing year-round food production and learning.
This year, the program continues to evolve. The top 10 schools from a statewide Vegetable Farming Competition will each be awarded net houses to enable all-season cultivation.

Additionally, over 1,000 school teachers have already benefited from the initiative through training that enhances both their teaching and agricultural production capabilities.
