About the Role
Reporting directly to the Protection Manager, the Social Work Officer II will lead mobile outreach efforts to identify, manage, and safely refer gender-based violence (GBV) and protection cases in Diffa, Niger. The position is responsible for delivering individual and group psychosocial support using specialized methodologies such as Women Rise and Girl Shine, building community capacity, and coordinating with emergency response units.
Key Responsibilities

GBV Case Management & Referrals: Handle individual GBV protection cases confidentially, map available specialized service providers, and coordinate ethical referrals via the Gender-Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS).

Targeted Psychosocial Interventions: Facilitate structured support sessions using IRC’s Women Rise approach for adult women and emergency Girl Shine curricula for adolescent girls.

Community Capacity Building: Train and mentor grassroots organizations, community leaders, and local actors on GBV concepts, guiding principles, safe referrals, and basic psychosocial first aid.

Risk Mapping & Mitigation: Conduct structured focus group discussions with local women and girls to identify community protection risks and develop localized risk reduction plans.

Reporting & Coordination: Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports, contribute to quarterly GBVIMS trend analyses, and participate in inter-agency protection working groups.
Eligibility & Requirements

Nationality & Gender: Must be a Nigerien national and a female candidate (strictly required for direct survivor engagement under IRC protection guidelines).

Location Context & Languages: Demonstrated knowledge of the humanitarian landscape in Diffa (or at least 1 year of residence/work in Diffa) and fluency in local languages, including Kanouri, Hausa, Fulfulde/Peulh, Toubou, or Arabic.

Education: Higher education degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Law, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.

Professional Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in GBV case management, child protection, psychosocial support, or psychological counselling within NGO or humanitarian settings.
