About the Programme

The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and accredited tertiary institutions, is receiving applications for Cohort 1 of the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP).

ATPP is a fast-tracked national qualification route designed for working educators who hold academic credentials but lack formal professional teaching qualifications. It enables serving teachers to obtain a recognized teaching diploma and achieve eligibility for official TRCN registration without leaving their jobs.

Qualification Pathways

The programme offers two distinct 6-month study routes:

• Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE):

  • Units: 40-unit curriculum.

  • Eligibility: Open to holders of a non-education Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND).

  • Experience: Minimum of 24 months of active classroom teaching experience.

• Professional Diploma in Education (PDE):

  • Units: 37-unit curriculum.

  • Eligibility: Open to holders of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or National Diploma (ND).

  • Experience: Minimum of 24 months of active classroom teaching experience.

Key Programme Features & Curriculum

The ATPP curriculum is aligned with the official TRCN Professional Standards for Teachers across four primary domains:

• Core Subject Areas: Foundations of Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum & Pedagogy, Inclusive Education & Safeguarding, Digital/Blended Learning, and Subject Methodology.

• Hybrid Learning Structure: 4 months of self-paced online study via the ATPP LMS combined with periodic contact sessions at designated study centres.

• Classroom Practicum: 2 months of supervised teaching practice within the participant’s current school environment.

Who Can Apply?

ATPP is open to serving educators working in any of the following settings across Nigeria:

• Public and private primary or secondary schools.

• Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education (ECCDE) centres.

• Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

• Non-formal, alternative, community, or volunteer teaching roles.

Completion & Certification Requirements

To successfully graduate and earn TRCN registration eligibility, participants must:

1. Complete the required credit units for their selected pathway (40 units for PGDE / 37 units for PDE).

2. Pass supervised classroom teaching practice and institutional assessments.

3. Sit for and pass the official TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE).
