About the Opportunity
The Animal Welfare League (AWL) is inviting experts worldwide to join its Research Evaluation Panel. AWL works to advance farmed animal welfare across Africa, focusing on chickens and fish across key markets, including Ghana, Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria.
Panel evaluators will review independent research, economic analyses, and scoping papers prior to open-access publication. The research findings aim to inform international standards bodies, regulators, and industry leaders.

Evaluators will review research focused on:

The economics of cage-free egg production in South Africa.

The status of cage systems in broiler production across Africa.

The cost of constructing aviary laying-hen housing in Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa.
Role Responsibilities
When assigned a research project, panel members will:

Review completed research proposals, economic analyses, or scoping papers.

Score the work using a standard one-page published evaluation rubric.

Provide constructive comments on research rigor, evidence quality, and policy usefulness.

Participate in brief panel calls when collective discussion is necessary.
Flexibility & Expectations: Assignments will have at least a 2-week deadline. Evaluators may decline individual assignments without losing panel membership. Evaluators will not be required to edit manuscripts, manage authors, or endorse findings.
