Rising Hope Initiative for Sustainable Development is a young women lead non-profit and non-governmental humanitarian and developmental organization with a steadfast commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by conflict-affected populations in the Northeast and North-western part of Nigeria. RHISD was established and registered in 2023, with head office at NO. 2I4 IFAM plaza pompomari by-pass Maiduguri Borno State and CAC registration NO: 7181103. RHISD zero in on seven critical areas: Food security and livelihood, education, peace building, nutrition, climate response, protection, and hygiene promotion. Our overarching goal is to forge sustainable pathways for individuals who currently find themselves without access to such prospects.

GBV Officer – Job Description
Position Title: GBV Officer
Department: Protection
Location: Bama
1. Purpose of the Role
The GBV Officer supports the planning, implementation, and monitoring of Gender-Based Violence prevention and response activities. The role ensures that survivors receive timely, confidential, and survivor-cantered support while strengthening community structures to prevent GBV.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Case Management & Survivor Support
- Provide confidential, survivor-cantered case management services to GBV survivors.
- Conduct safety planning, emotional support, and follow-up.
- Facilitate referrals to medical, legal, psychosocial, and livelihood services.
B. Psychosocial Support (PSS)
- Lead individual and group PSS sessions for women and girls.
- Support the establishment and running of Women & Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS).
C. GBV Prevention & Community Engagement
- Conduct community sensitization, awareness sessions, and risk-reduction activities.
- Facilitate training for community volunteers, focal persons, and women-led groups.
- Participate in safety audits and community assessments to identify GBV risks.
D. Coordination & Networking
- Coordinate closely with GBV actors, protection partners, CP actors, health facilities, and community structures.
- Represent the organization in GBV sub-sector meetings when required.
- Strengthen referral pathways and ensure services are updated.
E. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
- Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on GBV activities.
- Maintain updated work plans and contribute to project proposals.
- Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes, including success stories, indicator tracking, and assessments.
F. Capacity Building
- Train staff, volunteers, and community groups on GBV concepts, guiding principles, PSEA, case management, and referral pathways.
- Mentor case workers and assistants to improve the quality of services.
3. Required Qualifications
Education
- Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Public Health, Sociology, or relevant field.
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in GBV programming or protection work.
- Experience working in humanitarian settings is an added advantage.
- Fluency in speaking Hausa and Kanuri
Skills
- Strong understanding of GBV core concepts and guiding principles (safety, confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination).
- Ability to work with survivors with empathy and professionalism.
- Good communication, report writing, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of GBVIMS, MS Office, and safeguarding principles.
