    Gov Radda Empowers 7,220 Widows, Others With Food, Cash

    In a vote of thanks, the Katsina State Commissioner for Women Affairs Hadiza Yar’adua commended the governor’s efforts for inclusive governance.

    Radda at the event held at the Banquet Hall of the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina, assured of his government’s readiness to support widows and less privileged women in the state to achieve lasting success.

    He also assured determination to build a Katsina State where no one is left behind.

    “We recognize the difficult challenges widows face for loosing their loved ones. We understand the numerous challenges they face. This program is aimed at restoring the dignity of widows and less privileged women. We are flagging off this program to 8040 beneficiaries from 4 LGAs namely: Katsina, Kaita, Batagarawa, and Rimi LGAs,” the governor said.

    Earlier in his welcome address, the Katsina State Commissioner for Religious Affairs Ishaq Dabai announced that the empowerment programme beginning with four LGAs namely: Katsina, Kaita, Batagarawa and Rimi, will be extended to the remaining 30 LGAs in the state from Wednesday.

    “This gesture is special because it’s done in the holy month of Ramadan where good deeds if fortunately done on the day of destiny, will attract rewards for more than 1,000 times,” he believed.

    On his part, the Programme Coordinator of the Katsina State Community Development Initiative Kamaluddeen Kabeer appealed to beneficiaries particularly those that are into begging to desist and utilize whatever they are given to start their own business.

    In the meantime, the Katsina State Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development Muhammad Bakori spoke at length on the efforts of the State Government in farming activities, stating that, last year alone, over 6000 women were trained and empowered on farming activities.

    400 tractors alongside 4,000 power tillers have been purchased by the government and distributed to farmers to boost irrigation farming in the State to respond to the shortage of work bulls rustled by cattle rustlers,” he added.
