The Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship is a financial assistance program provided by the Indonesian Government for international students from developing countries to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degrees in Indonesia. It was initiated during the 10th Conference of Heads of States of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in 1992 and launched in 1993 for NAM member countries.
In 2002, the scholarship expanded beyond NAM nations due to growing global interest, allowing students from Asia, the Pacific, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe to apply. The program fosters people-to-people relations between Indonesia and recipient countries while developing future leaders.
KNB provides an opportunity to study at 34 top universities in Indonesia, offering students high-quality degree programs in various fields. At the same time, they get to experience Indonesia’s rich multicultural and multilingual society, known for its diversity and vibrancy. The scholarship aims to enhance students’ intellectual standing, develop their competencies, and expand career opportunities, preparing them for post-college success. Additionally, it strengthens people-to-people connections, fostering global leadership skills and broadening professional networks.

In 2025, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia, in collaboration with 34 KNB host universities, will accept approximately 200 applicants, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral candidates. This initiative strengthens international education cooperation, positioning Indonesia as a key destination for students from developing nations seeking quality higher education and global career opportunities.

Bachelor’s Degree:
- Maximum Age: 21 years old (Born after Dec 31, 2004)
- Educational Qualification: High School graduate
- English Proficiency Test Scores:
- TOEFL ITP: 477
- TOEFL IBT: 53
- IELTS: 5.5
- TOEIC: 510 (or equivalent)
- Exemption from English Test: Applicants from English-speaking countries or those whose degree was taught in English (with official proof)
- Recommendation Letter:
- From the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate
- From the Employer/Immediate Supervisor (if working)
- From the Academic Institution (previous school)
- Scanned Documents:
- High School Certificate & Transcripts, legalized by Ministry of Education & Foreign Affairs
- Valid Passport (Must be valid until Dec 31, 2026)
- File Format & Size: .jpeg or .jpg, max 300 KB per file

Master’s Degree:
- Maximum Age: 35 years old (Born after Dec 31, 1990)
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree
- English Proficiency Test Scores:

- IELTS: 6.0
- TOEIC: 575 (or equivalent)
- Exemption from English Test: Applicants from English-speaking countries or those whose degree was taught in English (with official proof)

- Maximum Age: 40 years old (Born after Dec 31, 1985)
- Educational Qualification: Master’s degree

- TOEFL IBT: 71
- IELTS: 6.0
- TOEIC: 640 (or equivalent)
- Exemption from English Test: Applicants from English-speaking countries or those whose degree was taught in English (with official proof)
- Recommendation Letter:
- From the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate
- From the Employer/Immediate Supervisor (if working)
- From the Academic Institution (previous school)
- From the Research Supervisor (for Doctoral applicants)
- Statement of Purpose: Must include research topic & academic plans (dissertation proposal)
- Scanned Documents:
- Master’s Certificate & Transcripts, legalized by Ministry of Education & Foreign Affairs
- Valid Passport (Must be valid until Dec 31, 2026)

Applicants contact the Indonesian Representative in your origin country (from the embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia only) and submit all administrative and academic documents requirement such as: a. Curriculum Vitae; b. Scan of valid passport; c. English Proficiency Test (Applicant from non English-Speaking Countries); d. Recommendation Letter from The Employer/Immediate Supervisor (in English or Bahasa), e. Academic Recommendation Letter from Previous Schools (in English or Bahasa), f. Academic Certificate and Academic Transcript from previous degree (in English or Bahasa) that has been legalized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country, g. Recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in one of the universities providing partner of the KNB Scholarship (for doctoral applicant only), h. statement of purpose of their studies in Indonesia (for doctoral applicant only) in English or Bahasa to Indonesian Representatives to get letter of recommendation from Indonesian Representatives;

Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia) collect data and review all documents requirement for Recommendation Letters from prospective KNB Scholarship applicants, especially regarding the applicant’s educational background (for example: Grade Point Average, Final Diploma, Institutional Reputation), work history (if any) and the validity of the documents submitted by the applicant as a basis for providing a Recommendation Letter (applicants cannot register without a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative in the relevant country);

After obtaining a Recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative, prospective KNB Scholarship applicants are welcome to register online via the KNB Scholarship website (https://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id). Please note that, KNB Scholarship Management only accept the recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative in your origin country (from the embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia only) that signed at 2025;
