Airtel Africa Foundation Awards Full STEM Scholarships to 70 Nigerian Students
The Airtel Africa Foundation has inducted the first Nigerian cohort of the Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship, a programme offering fully funded scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics across the continent.
During a ceremony held at the Airtel Nigeria headquarters in Lagos, the foundation’s chairman, Segun Ogunsanya, alongside the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, presented full-ride scholarship awards to 70 students drawn from universities across Nigeria.
The fellowship is part of the foundation’s broader effort to expand access to education and strengthen the pipeline of technology talent across Africa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ogunsanya emphasised the importance of investing in young people and supporting initiatives that can shape the continent’s technological future.
“True legacy is not measured by the awards we win or the volume of SIM cards we sell; it is measured by the lives we save, the people we feed, and the students we support when the line between success and failure is at its thinnest,” he said.
“At the Airtel Africa Foundation, we believe that lifting people out of poverty is the ultimate benchmark of a great company. Today, we are writing that legacy by tilting the balance in favour of the brilliant but underserved, ensuring that the fourth industrial revolution, driven by AI and Data Science, is built by African talent for the African continent.”
The Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship provides full tuition support and aims to equip beneficiaries with the technical skills needed to contribute to Africa’s growing digital economy.
