Media Trust Group, a leading multimedia organization with a reputation for delivering innovative content across Nigeria, is looking for a competent and dynamic Multimedia Broadcast Journalist – Sports to join its growing editorial team.
This exciting opportunity is ideal for a seasoned sports journalist with a deep understanding of the local, national, and international sports landscape.
The successful candidate will be part of the Trust Radio team and will report to the Team Lead and, ultimately, the Chief Operating Officer.
Please note: This role involves working in shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
As a Multimedia Sports Journalist, you will:
- Cover sporting events and report on breaking sports news across multiple platforms (TV, radio, print, and digital).
- Originate, research, produce, and present engaging sports content including interviews, features, analyses, and reports.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the sports industry.
- Contribute fresh story ideas and angles, suggest follow-ups on developing stories, and identify new trends in sports journalism.
- Write, translate, adapt, and edit stories for diverse audiences while maintaining accuracy, fairness, balance, and impartiality.
- Conduct interviews, moderate discussions, and present live or recorded programmes on various platforms.
- Handle studio production for live and pre-recorded programmes and respond to breaking news both on and off-air.
- Use multimedia tools (audio, video, digital editing) to produce high-quality journalistic content.
Essential Skills
- Solid understanding of local, continental, and global sports affairs.
- Strong storytelling skills with the ability to analyze and present sports content across different platforms.
- Excellent broadcast voice and presentation style adaptable to various media.
- Proficiency in writing, editing, and adapting content for radio, television, print, and digital audiences.
- Strong computer literacy, including internet research and multimedia production tools.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field in the Social Sciences or Humanities.
- Demonstrated experience as a multimedia sports journalist.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Hausa (written and spoken) are essential.
- Deep knowledge of Nigeria’s evolving media landscape.
- Prior experience covering sports, either in a professional or freelance capacity, will be an added advantage.
